Description:
This refined Queen Anne flat-top high chest belongs to a distinguished Connecticut group associated with the Stonington-Ledyard-Groton area, recognized for the distinctive “lobster-tail” pendant centred in the apron. The form is further defined by its flat top, carefully balanced drawer arrangement, and elegantly shaped skirt, all executed without knee brackets.

The figured maple selection and highly resolved proportions place this example among the strongest of the form. A related figured maple dressing table has been documented from the same shop tradition, reinforcing the quality and regional importance of the piece.

Condition remains strong, with a mellow old finish, minor lip repairs, and replaced interior drawer runners consistent with careful long-term stewardship.

Provenance:
By family descent through the Hicks and Swartz families, later Bucks County, Pennsylvania
