This charming Pennsylvania slide-lid trinket box features bold painted decoration consisting of yellow stamped stars on a red ground. The box retains its original painted surface and remains in untouched condition. Small painted boxes such as this were often used to store personal valuables and household items. The lively painted surface reflects the strong decorative traditions of Pennsylvania folk art during the early nineteenth century.
