Circa: 1800–1825
Materials & Dimensions:
White pine, poplar, and walnut with original reddish-brown grain-painted finish
29 ¾ × 40 ¾ × 96 ½ inches
Description:
This rare large-scale paint-decorated dining table is constructed in the Pennsylvania German tradition, with an impressive removable top composed of two wide pine boards secured by keyed dovetailed battens with removable pins. The apron features moulded edges on all four sides, fitted with three thumb-moulded and dovetailed drawers with turned knobs.
The bold ring-turned columnar legs are joined by square box stretchers and terminate in turned ball feet, giving the table both strength and architectural presence. The base retains its original reddish-brown grain-painted surface, while the worn top reflects generations of use and authenticity.
