Felipe Benito Archuleta, (1910-1991)

Carved and painted wood

As a Sculptor, Felipe is considered to be the founding father of the non-santero wood carving tradition in New Mexico. He claimed to have begun carving in response to a command from God. He is very famous for his animal carvings as well as his decorative watermelon pieces.
