CollectionsWatercolor on paper Theorem - Sold 7.5 x 9.5 inches 9.5 x 11.5 inches in period gilded frame Depicting a woven basket with flowers, berries, grapes and beaches, on a table. Still-life pictures symbolized abundance and the good life in overflowing baskets or bowls. Often depicted on a marble slab, such as this fine example, they suggest a table heavily laden with fresh food. The inclusion of flowers contributes an element of cheerfulness and harmony. The delicately-executed curling vines of this wonderful example closely parallel those in another theorem illustrated in Rumford and Weekley, Treasures of American Folk Art (Colonial Williamsburg, 1989), p. 200, no. 156.
