Georgia, Mid-19th Century
Yellow pine secondary wood
30.5 x 56.5 diameter

The round top of ten boards with smaller four-board Lazy Susan, on a blue-painted frame raised on square tapering legs.

The brilliant blue base of this table is distinctive and combines with refined proportions to elevate it above other examples of a rare form typically associated with Southern furniture-making. Known at the time as "turn-top tables," this practical form appears in numerous 19th century inventories. For similar examples, see Neat Pieces: The Plain-Style Furniture of 19th Century Georgia (Atlanta, 1983), pp. 93, 117-119.
